Starting at the beginning, one thing I’ve had to answer for myself, and have been asked by others is; Why become a holistic health coach? The answer, like in many instances in life, is multi-faceted.

I have always had a desire to help people, be it friends, neighbors or strangers. I have volunteered with the homeless, and provided meals to friends and neighbors.

I love listening to people’s stories, as I find it not only fascinating, but also find lessons for myself during the process. There is much healing that a person can do when they are simply listened to and allowed that time and space to process out loud.

I believe in a healthy lifestyle, including food, exercise and various alternative therapies.

All of these beliefs and qualities make up who I am, and they play a role, but really cancer was the turning point. It wasn’t a big ah-ha moment of, “I have cancer and now I need to completely change my life.” Instead it was a process, a long process that coincided with my healing. Multiple surgeries, chemo, and radiation have taken a toll on my body.  I have been left with conditions that leave me in pain after being on my feet for too long and limit my ability to lift heavy amounts of weight. My current job has been impacted, so I needed to take a step back and say, “Now what?” I learned I felt better when I exercised and when I incorporated more plant-based eating. I learned it is essential for me for receive acupuncture on a regular basis and understand my physical limits. I was then led to studying with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN). During my studies I learned much about various dietary theories, but I also learned about the importance of lifestyle practices and it’s impact on one’s health. Essentially, my time with IIN was the part of the process that reinforced what I already believed, and what was already a part of me. It made me not only crave a healthier life for myself, but want to share it with others.

My desire to help others in their time of need, listen, and live and share a healthy lifestyle are all answers to the, “Why.”  People strive to do what they love and I believe the best way to do that is to incorporate all that you are into your work. Living life as a holistic health coach allows me to be who I am, with my past experiences, education and my soul all mushed together in a beautiful life.
